"We can not allow our neighbours to drift away to China", PTI quoted him as saying. "We are continuously manning the border", he said regarding the Doklam standoff. "It was also posing a threat to us as it was changing the status quo", he said.

Gen. Rawat said the army was working on a plan to open two schools, and once they are operational, instead of granting financial aid, children of martyrs and physically disabled soldiers who are eligible for the help will be given admission in these schools.

Speaking on the occasion General Rawat complimented DRDO and said CBRN threat is becoming a reality, particularly from the "non-state actors" and he is sure that DRDO's long-term perspective plan in conjunction and integrated perspective plan of the services must encompass development of mitigation of technologies against such CBRN threats.

The army chief said that transgressions along the Line of Actual Control - the de-facto boundary between India and China - had increased manifold and that China was trying to put pressure on India.

Asked about the "pressure" being exerted on Pakistan by United States, he said: "It would be premature to say what will be the impact of the pressure. This year it will shift to North Kashmir's Baramulla, Pattan, Handwara, Kupwara, Sopire and Lolab and some northern areas of Bandipore so that the infiltration can be thwarted there", General Rawat said.
