A personal lawyer for President Trump and a former porn star both denied a late Friday report claiming the adult-film actress was paid in exchange for her silence about an alleged sexual encounter with Trump.

Michael Cohen, a longtime representative of the Trump Organization, reportedly negotiated a nondisclosure agreement with a lawyer for the woman, Stephanie Clifford, over an encounter that allegedly occurred in 2006.

The Journal cited an unnamed White House official as saying that the allegations were "old, recycled reports, which were published and strongly denied prior to the election".

In response to the Journal, Cohen isn't denying the payments, but he said it's not tied to an affair.

He also hit out at the Wall Street Journal's "outlandish allegations" against Mr Trump and said the paper had been trying to "perpetuate" a "false narrative". The company said the payment was for Clifford to write fitness columns. That report came days after the Washington Post released a video from a 2005 Access Hollywood recording in which Trump said he could grab women by the genitals because he was famous.

Cohen's reference to previous allegations may include the Journal's report in the days before the election that Clifford meant to appear on "Good Morning America" to discuss the alleged affair.

Clifford would have addressed her relationship with Trump in connection with a report about the National Enquirer paying a former Playboy Playmate $150,000 for her story on an alleged affair she had with Trump.

The president's lawyer also attached a statement signed by "Stormy Daniels" that said the actress did not have a "sexual and/or romantic affair" with Trump. "My involvement with Donald Trump was limited to a few public appearances and nothing more". "When I met Donald Trump, he was gracious, professional and a complete gentleman to me and EVERYONE in my presence".

"Rumors that I have received hush money from Donald Trump are completely false", the letter read. "But the fact of the matter is, these stories are not true".

"His words and actions are a huge testament to his character - that of uncontrollable misogyny, entitlement, and being a sexual assault apologist", Drake said at an October 2016 press conference with her attorney Gloria Allred.

Clifford herself hasn't responded to the Journal's request for comment. Later in 2009 she was arrested for domestic violence. She was 27 years old at the time, and Mr. Trump would have just turned 60. Later, Trump claimed the tape was fake, despite previously apologizing for it and despite Billy Bush corroborating witnessing the remarks.
