Video shared on social media showed the moment the activists interrupted Mr Khan's speech, just after the mayor was introduced to the stage.

Following the removal of the protesters, Khan took a jab at Trump, telling his audience: "It is a pleasure to be here even though we were distracted by the actions of what some would call very stable geniuses".

Yesterday, Khan tweeted a statement that "President Trump got the message" from Londoners who disapprove of his "divisive agenda" after he cancelled a trip to the UK. Please stand back, do not touch us.

According to the protesters, there are "millions of British people supporting Donald Trump".

The protestors shouted they wanted the mayor to be arrested.

Mr Kahn's address on gender equality to the Fabian Society in central London was suspended for several minutes on Saturday morning while demonstrators from a group called the White Pendragons made their protest.

They denied being far right or racist, despite suggesting to Brand that Khan's religion meant he could not be mayor.
