Earlier this month, Democratic US Senator Dianne Feinstein released Simpson's testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, where she is the ranking Democrat.

Donald Trump had links to the Russian mafia during his time as a real estate developer, according to the founder of the company behind the infamous dossier alleging ties between the president and Russia.

Recently released testimony shows Fusion GPS founder was trying to steer the FBI away from further investigation of the Clintons while he was encouraging investigators to look into Trump. "And sometimes properties would be bought and sold, and they would be bought for one price and sold for a loss shortly thereafter, and it really didn't make sense to us".

In his testimony, Simpson defended the dossier and the work done by ex-British intelligence agent Christopher Steele.

Some of the allegations in the memos have been disproven, and Republicans have largely argued that the document is a politically motivated hit job on the president.

FBI counterintelligence investigators have focused on the activities of Alexander Torshin, the deputy governor of Russia's central bank who is known for his close relationships with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and the NRA, the sources said.

"I think that the evidence that has developed over the previous year, since President Trump took office, is that there is a well-established pattern of surreptitious contacts ... that supports the broad allegation of some sort of an undisclosed political or financial relationship between the Trump Organization and people in Russian Federation". The transcript is 165 pages long and much of it is redacted.

But there's plenty of fodder for both sides to point to, as the dossier continues to be a focal point in the congressional investigations into Russian Federation.

"Those transcripts reveal serious allegations that the Trump Organization may have engaged in money laundering with Russian nationals", Representative Adam Schiff said.

"We saw what [President Donald Trump's son] Eric Trump said about Russian money being available for his golf - for the golf course projects, making remarks about having unlimited sums available", Mr Simpson replied.

Later in the House Intelligence hearing, Republican Party Congressman Tom Rooney said the stories that Mr Simpson was telling were "fascinating".

Trump's trip to Moscow for the 2013 Miss Universe pageant, and a vodka deal he pushed there also jumped out to Simpson in the spring of 2016, he told the committee.

"I think that's an important point", Himes told CNN's Wolf Blitzer. "These issues have nothing to do with the scope of the investigation" by the House intelligence committee, Mr Garten said.

Simpson explained part of the reason he was motivated to go to the media with the dossier, which has been a sore spot with Republicans.

"W$3 e hope the release of this transcript will reinforce the importance of these critical questions to our investigation", Schiff said in the statement.

Steele made global headlines after it was revealed that he compiled the "Trump-Russia dossier" - an infamous cache of documents that claims the Russian government has blackmailed Trump to do its bidding after obtaining damaging information about him, including a video tape allegedly showing him engaging in "perverted sexual acts".
