Here Are The Top 20 Finalist Cities

The online retail giant offered up a list of 20 finalists and the First State was not among them. Politicians across the USA and Canada eagerly expressed interest, and the company received proposals from 238 locations, including from smaller markets like Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Memphis, Tennessee. In addition to Amazon's direct hiring and investment, construction and operation of HQ2 is expected to create tens of thousands of additional jobs and tens of billions of dollars in additional investment in the surrounding community.

Other areas Amazon is weighing include Toronto, Columbus, Indianapolis, Chicago, Denver, Austin, Boston, New York, Newark, Philadelphia and Miami.

"Getting from 238 to 20 was very tough - all the proposals showed tremendous enthusiasm and creativity", Holly Sullivan, of Amazon Public Policy, said in a statement. "Through this process we learned about many new communities across North America that we will consider as locations for future infrastructure investment and job creation".

The state proposed building an "innovation corridor" between Kansas City and St. Louis to provide employees and sites for Amazon.
