This is what US President Donald Trump told journalists this Sunday, denying accusations of racism against him for allegedly saying that El Salvador, Haiti and African nations were "shithole countries".

When the White House released the results of a test on Donald Trump's mental aptitude Tuesday, showing he aced it without signs of cognitive decline, there was one person out there brimming with pride despite not knowing the president.

Ivana Trump, who has three children with the President - Ivanka, Donald Jr. and Eric - said his use of Twitter was "actually not bad" as the media "change everything you say". The following day, Trump tweeted "The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used".

"He said, 'I want you to get out there and I want you to talk to them and I want you to answer every single question they have, ' " Jackson said.

But he says the president asked for it.

"While this is the first #MLKDay with an unrepentant & unreconstructed racist in the White House, we are neither intimidated by insult nor tweet - we are prayerful not fearful", he said.

The president's responsibility is to America and not to other countries.

Asked how Trump could stay healthy on a diet that includes McDonald's and Diet Cokes, Jackson said: "It's called genetics - I don't know".

A confidant of Trump told The Associated Press that the president spent Thursday evening calling friends and outside advisers to judge their reaction to his remarks.

"He's more enthusiastic about the diet part than the exercise part", Jackson said.

UN Human Rights Spokesman Rupert Colville said at a press conference in Geneva: "There is no other word that can be used but racist, you cannot label entire countries and continents as "shit-holes". Trump wasn't apologetic and denied he was racist, said the confidant, who wasn't authorized to disclose a private conversation and spoke on condition of anonymity. "Then the American leadership will understand that it made a mistake".

The contentious comments came as Durbin was presenting details of a compromise immigration plan that had money for a first installment of the president's long-sought border wall. "Do we need more Haitians?" "I think we're back into the land of CRs", he also told reporters.

In a hearing Tuesday, Graham said Trump expressed openness to an immigration deal, only to reject it hours later.

The reports prompted widespread outrage and condemnation, and threw a wrench in the negotiations over how to handle the young unauthorized immigrants temporarily shielded from deportation under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which the Trump administration meant to phase out by March 5.
