President Donald Trump is in "excellent health", and has no cognitive problems, but should lose some weight through a regimen that includes improving his diet and getting more exercise, the White House physician said Tuesday.

Speaking at a White House press conference, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Dr. Ronny Jackson disclosed the results of Trump's first physical exam as commander-in-chief, which he underwent last Thursday.

At 6-foot-3 and 239 pounds, the 71-year-old president had a blood pressure reading of 122/74 and a resting heart rate of 68 beats per minutes.

Trump also will increase his daily dosage of Crestor, Jackson said, with a goal of getting his LDL cholesterol down to below a reading of 120.

Last week a group of mental health professionals sent an urgent public letter to the president's doctor requesting he test Trump's cognitive abilities. I found no reason whatsoever to think the president has any issues whatsoever with his thought process'.

US President Donald Trump had a normal score on a cognitive exam and is in excellent health, according to the White House physician. Until then, don't let the White House sell the myth that Donald Trump is 100% healthy and fit for the presidency because his behavior has consistently demonstrated that psychologically and emotionally there are serious unanswered questions about Trump.

"He continues to enjoy the significant long-term cardiac and overall health benefits that come from a lifetime of abstinence from tobacco and alcohol", Jackson said.

According to the website mocatest.org, it is a "rapid screening instrument for mild cognitive dysfunction".

Ziad Nasreddine has just learned that the Montreal Cognitive Assessment he developed as a young neurologist two decades ago was used to assess the cognitive functions of one of the world's most powerful people. "I don't know. Some people just have great genes".

The president weighed 108kg and measured 1.90m tall at the exam, Dr Jackson said.

When pressed about Trump's infamous Twitter habits, Jackson said he couldn't explain that behavior. The man is borderline obese, doesn't exercise, and eats Big Macs.

Jackson said he would consult with nutritionists and work out an exercise program for the president.

He also has a total cholesterol of 223, which is higher than recommended, and is taking medication to address that, Jackson said.

The joke account for North Korea tweeted: "235 pound reported weight for portly United States president Donald Trump draws widespread worldwide mockery".

"The president has acknowledged he'd be healthier if he lost a few pounds", Jackson said.

Mr Trump has refuted any claims about his mental fitness for office.

Dr. Jackson's comments seemed selective to some.
