Chelsea recruit reveals the driving force behind his exit from former club

Paris - Olivier Giroud revealed on Sunday his move from Arsenal to Chelsea was motivated by a Soccer World Cup warning from France coach Didier Deschamps.

And with the World Cup in Russian Federation on the horizon, Giroud revealed that French manager Didier Deschamps urged him to change clubs to get some valuable game time.

Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud spurned interest from Roma, Sevilla and Borussia Dortmund in order to join the defending Premier League champions and work with Antonio Conte, the France worldwide has confirmed.

The arrival of the Gabon worldwide meant that Giroud was set to become Arsenal's third-choice striker with Alexandre Lacazette also ahead of him in the pecking order.

He told Telefoot: "A week before the end of the transfer window, I needed to hear his (Deschamps") opinion.

The 31-year-old joined Chelsea on the closing day of the January window, the same day that the Gunners sealed the club-record signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Chelsea's new hitman has acknowledged that Aubameyang's arrival would have reduced his playing time even more if he stayed at Arsenal and admits he is unhappy with the events that led to his exit. "But he encouraged me to change clubs", he said.
