Sony's next major PlayStation 4 system update is now rolling out to selected gamers in the firm's beta program. In the meanwhile, details on what the update will include have been revealed. The new system software will introduce supersampling for Ps4 Pro, play time management, library UI improvements and more. Today, we're getting a better idea of what will be added, as Sony has detailed some of the incoming features while at the same time launching PS4 5.50's beta on a large scale.

Play-time management: This utility is geared more to parents, or players who can't control their habit. Two, make gameplay accessible within set hours. Notifications will be sent to the player about the impending cut off allowing them to find a place to save, but there's also the option for an immediate sign out as well. You can check your child's playtime from the Settings Menu, or through your PlayStation account on a web browser. The "This PS4" tab lists all the applications that are installed on the PS4 system, and the tab with your name/avatar lists all the apps that you purchased with your PSN ID.

Another section of the library allows you to see what games you now own through PlayStation Plus, keeping in mind that you'll lose access to said games should your subscription lapse. They can do so via the pulldown menu under the Friends tab in Quick Menu.

The Quick Menu is being made, well, more quick to navigate in update 5.5 with the ability to access custom friends lists. For straight-up plug-and-play online gaming, though, the Gold Wireless Headset is about as good as it gets. Sony also made tweaks to the music function, "Whenever you're listening to music on PS4, you'll be able to access certain shortcuts from the Quick Menu".

If you're using Spotify on PlayStation Music, the "square" button will serve as the shortcut for volume control. And when you're on the Media Player or the USB Music Player, "triangle" will work as the shortcut for play or pause, and the "square" button as the volume control. If your subscription has lapsed, games on the system will be shown with a lock icon on top of the PS Plus logo. You can also now permanently remove old notifications from the PS4 as well. This is found under Settings Themes Select Theme Custom Select Image USB Storage Device.

The main reason why this is big news is that it should bring supersampling support to games that do not already support the feature, which previously made these games' PS4 Pro upgrades only visible to 4K TV owners.

The brand new Supersampling mode enables users with HDTVs to enjoy enhanced visuals. This allows for improved image quality and clarity, even without a 4K TV.
