Texas police officer fatally shot; suspect in standoff

According to Richardson police, officers encountered gunfire when they were responding to a disturbance call. The Richardson Police Department at this time will only say that two people have been hit and one is believed to be an officer.

The Dallas Morning News reports that a Richardson Police Department officer was responding to reports of a disturbance with shots fired Wednesday when he was shot. The officer was taken to Medical City Plano.

An El Paso County (Colo.) Sheriff's deputy marking his 11-year anniversary with the force was killed Monday in a shooting that also left three law enforcement officers wounded.

Meanwhile, the spokesman said police had the apartment covered from which the gunman was still firing, apparently at random.
