She said that former President Barack Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood. The fate of people protected by the program has prolonged the spending debate for several months. "We can get this budget deal done and then we can focus on getting this immigration deal done".

Her warning came on Wednesday: House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said she and other Democrats won't back any budget deal ahead of an approaching deadline - unless Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) allows a vote on amnesty for illegal immigrants brought to the children.

The National Republican Congressional Committee, the group that works to increase the Republican majority in the House, tweeted to Pelosi, writing, "Dear @NancyPelosi Every minute you're in front of the cameras, you make our job easier". Pelosi has chose to think on her feet and see if that somehow inspires Ryan to do likewise.

Ryan told reporters Tuesday that the House would not "bring immigration legislation through that the president doesn't support". But when the debate might happen - and what kind of bill Trump can support - is still unclear.

She stood for eight hours and seven minutes in 10-centimetre heels and consumed nothing but water, according to an aide.

There are no filibusters under House rules, but top leaders are allowed unlimited "leader time" and it's not uncommon for Pelosi to be yielded "one minute" but take more than 20 minutes. By the afternoon, Democrats had submitted hundreds of stories that staffers printed out and rushed to the floor.

And she didn't stop until after 6 p.m. At one point, she lamented that she didn't have a rosary, so Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) gave her one.

House Democrats will likely spend the next 24 hours pushing to get a commitment from House Speaker Paul Ryan on floor consideration of DACA bills. "We're not certain that Clark held the record for the longest speech at the time, but it is the longest example we've been able to find on short notice".

As they begin their retreat on Wednesday, a day before government funding expires, House Democrats are considering their options on the federal budget deal.

At the White House, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the administration supports the Senate budget deal and does not agree with Pelosi's request to include immigration issues as part of the agreement.

"This is a moral fight that Democratic leadership is failing on".

"There is more to this deal than the issue of immigration", he said, referencing the disaster relief money, in particular. Absolutely. But it's not going to be all comprehensive. "What's wrong, there's something wrong with this picture and that is why this morning, when we took a measure of our caucus on support for the package - well we have to see all the particulars of it yet but there are good things in it - that it does nothing to even advance, even with a commitment, without having passed the legislation first, to advance bipartisan legislation to protect Dreamers in this house", she said. "Please open that door so we can have that debate here". In other words, she highlighted how important the issue is to the Democratic Party.

Biden, whose political persona has been built around the "Middle Class Joe" moniker, devoted most of his remarks to warning Democrats about the effect of Trump's attacks on cultural and political institutions.

"I still have a real problem dramatically increasing the caps, adding to the deficit, when we just added $2 trillion for the tax plan".
