Ahead of its debut at the Chicago auto show, Ford unveiled its all-new Transit Connect Wagon with a news release, fact sheet, images and video Thursday, Feb. 8.

The turbodiesel-Ford calls it EcoBlue-has been available in Europe for about a year, but is new to the USA and a first for this type of vehicle. It hopes the new features will resonate with what Ford calls "active Boomers". Although pricing for the 2019 Transit Connect Wagon hasn't been announced, the current version on dealer lots sells for about half that price.

The 2019 Transit Connect Wagon will be available with either a 1.5-liter EcoBlue diesel engine or a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine. It the same engine used in the Focus sedan.

It's widely acknowledged that modern turbodiesel engines with the latest urea-based exhaust aftertreatment systems will spread across an increasing number of pickup trucks and SUVs to help them meet fuel-economy requirements. Output isn't enormous at about 120 horsepower and 200 pound-feet of torque, but it should be quite usable, with peak torque arriving at just 1,700 rpm. Ford is fitting the wagon with a range of all-new gas and diesel engines and a suite of driver-assist technologies. When converted to US metrics, it is about 94 horsepower. Both come mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

It wouldn't be unreasonable to assume that vehicle might use an adaptation-or a new generation-of the two-motor hybrid system and 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine fitted to the C-Max Hybrid and Energi models. A 6.5-inch floating touch screen and wireless charging are also featured.

Closing bell: Sensex, Nifty break 7-day losing streak, closes higher
Aurobindo (-2.2%), Vedanta (-1%), Tata Motors (-0.87%), NTPC (-0.85%) and Airtel (-0.46%) were the top losers in today's trade. DIIs had bought shares worth Rs 461.19 crore, while foreign funds sold shares to the tune of Rs 1,022.50 crore on Wednesday.

Available in two wheelbases to accommodate five or seven passengers and in three trim levels, XL, XLT and Titanium, Transit Connect Wagon can be built to meet the needs of any customer.

The lay-flat seats also covert the interior to haul cargo.

Wi-Fi for up to 10 devices is standard. Adaptive cruise control, which now works down to a speed of 12 miles per hour, blind-spot and rear cross-traffic monitoring and lane-keeping assist systems are also available. It's also expected to offer more than 2,000 pounds of towing capacity when the optional towing package is included. It is still the leader in the small van segment, which overall, declined 9.5 percent.

Meanwhile, for families who find the van-like shape of the practical but not-a-crossover Transit Connect Wagon, it's diesels or nothing for the best fuel efficiency.
