Toys 'R' Us starts liquidation sales ahead of USA closures

A big move for a once-dominate toy retailer could mean big deals for shoppers.

Select Toys "R" Us stores across the United States began offering sales Wednesday amid the liquidation of over 140 stores. The 150 stores, representing about one-fifth of the company's USA locations, are expected to close by April.

Toys "R" Us to close dozens of stores nationwide; several Bay Area locations in jeopardySale signs went up at the Emeryville location, but at least a dozen stores have been taken off the initial closure list.

Toys R Us has lost market share from competitors including Amazon, Target and Walmart, and more toy brands are selling directly to consumers.

Stores in Albany, Newnan and Fayetteville are Toys R Us.

The company said these efforts all have the goal of making Toys R Us "more viable and competitive" in the retail industry today. During Tuesday's announcement, he also mentioned out-of-business sales will start at the affected stores.
