Amazon Now Delivers Whole Foods in One Hour

The delivery service is available from 8 10 p.m. which customers can access online or through an app on their smartphone.

Prime Now offers things like groceries and household items which are commonly needed but annoying to make a special trip for. Whole Foods stores have also been struggling lately with empty shelves, a problem attributed to an inventory management system installed before the Amazon deal.

Not only does this new integration further blur the line between Whole Foods and Amazon's own grocery service, Amazon Fresh, but it gives Whole Foods customers another way to order food online and get it delivered quickly. Since that acquisition, Amazon has cut prices on bananas, yogurt and other items at the organic grocer, and began selling Kindle e-readers in some of its 470 stores.

Amazon plans to begin delivering Whole foods groceries - including meat, produce and alcohol - free and within two hours to Prime subscribers in four US cities, bringing a new level of competition to the already-booming food-delivery business.

"Most people buy the same groceries week after week, so they're saying, 'Do I really need to go spend an hour at a Giant or Walmart for this?'"

Once a customer has placed an order, pickers-not necessarily Whole Foods employees-will manually collect the items from a nearby Whole Foods store and put them in "appropriate packaging". Food Dive has reached out to Amazon for clarification.

Neil Lindsay, VP of worldwide marketing at Amazon, will take on most of Greeley's former responsibilities at Prime, according to a source. Both of those companies, which have partnered with most of the country's major grocery chains, offer memberships that provide discounted delivery. Amazon shook up the retail sector with the announcement on June 16, 2017, it would acquire upscale US grocer Whole Foods Market, known for its pricey organic options, in a deal that underscores the online giant's growing influence in the economy.

Amazon have announced the start of free two hour delivery of natural and organic food stuffs from Whole Foods through Prime Now.
