From day one: A timeline of Gerald Stanley's trial

"There's no justification for why this young man was murdered".

Amid rallies across Canada Saturday, and a slew of posts on social media with the hashtag #justiceforcolten, Ouellette said the outcome of this trial shows Canada "has a long way to go" in terms of meaningful reconciliation.

Stanley says he thought Boushie was on his property to steal a truck. Stanley, 56, testified at trial that he believed their goal was robbery, which he and his son tried to prevent.

Stanley's lawyers had argued that his gun went off accidentally, killing the 22-year-old man in a "freak accident".

Rallies are being held across Canada this weekend in the wake of a jury finding Gerald Stanley not guilty of the second-degree murder of Colten Boushie.

For the past 17 months, the case had been hotly debated in Battleford, stirring deep feelings about the treatment - past and present - of the province's indigenous population.

If a jury is not convinced beyond a reasonable doubt that Stanley meant to cause Boushie's death, they could consider whether a manslaughter conviction is appropriate, Luther said. Kautz has since stepped down from the council.

Almost a thousand people rallied in front of a court house in Saskatoon Saturday to honour the family of Colten Boushie and to express their frustration with the trial of the man accused of killing him. Justin Trudeau said Saturday that "we have to do better".

Boushie's mother, Debbie Baptiste, left sobbing with her head down. I don't know any of them and I wasn't in the courtroom. Boushie was a Red Pheasant First Nation band member. Now she runs a legal practice in town that specializes in resolving claims by former pupils of mandatory boarding, or residential, schools the federal government established in the 19th century.

"It's very disappointing to hear that the jury was not representative of the population of Saskatchewan", he said, referring to the apparent absence of any Indigenous people from the 12-person jury.

Under representation is a product of many factors - the often prohibitive travel involved for Indigenous jurors getting to a courthouse, distrust of the system and the use of documentation to build a jury roll that favours non-Indigenous jurors.

Townsend adamant 'true Scotland' weren't on show in Wales rugby hammering
In the weekend's remaining Test, Ireland host Italy in a fixture for which all the statistics point to a comfortable home win. Scotland wouldn't let the visitors pull away and Laidlaw cut the lead back to just three points.

Trump's White House stands firm against winds of change
Trump's tweet also struck a nerve with people who noted that assault survivors have their lives "shattered", too. The US president's remarks bore a likeness to his defence of sex scandal-hit Senate candidate Roy Moore in 2017.

Victoria Beckham Pours Water On Hopes Of Spice Girls Reunion Tour
Finish the look celebrity style with Victoria's power frame sunglasses from her new collection. "The girls aren't going on tour". It was really, really, really lovely. "There's something so strong in the message of what the Spice Girls stood for".

Lisa Dewit said she came to the Victoria event with a message.

"Enough", she said. "We're going to fight back ..."

"I'm not saying that Indian people deserve a break because we've been victimized".

"I want to take this all the way to Ottawa".

The area is also an outlier on crime.

Several speakers spoke at the North Battleford rally.

She says it's just another example of injustices towards Indigenous people in the country.

Evidence presented at the trial showed that the group in the auto, while driving on a flat tire, had tried to steal a vehicle at another farm before going to the Stanleys.

"It's a bad feeling to hear not guilty", he told reporters outside the court.

"A reminder walk not just for ourselves and the love that we have and we share with the Boushie family, but also a reminder to this country that we are still here".

The police force declined to comment. "It really is a awful thing, and it's something that I don't believe needed to happen". Expert witnesses testified the pistol was working properly and could only be fired by pulling the trigger.
