Sam Allardyce won the clash of former England managers as Everton beat Roy Hodgson's Crystal Palace 3-1 in the Premier League on Saturday. "While it's much more important you do it here in front of your home fans than away, even though we've got great away support, there's 30-odd thousand here so when you make them happy, that's what you're here for".

The France midfielder has come in for criticism this season for his performances but manager Sam Allardyce was taken aback when Schneiderlin was booed as he replaced the injured Gueye.

"We didn't lose because we were lacking players because the XI was a good XI but we lost because we were punished for the defensive mistakes we made", Allardyce said.

Allardyce's appointment initially reinvigorated Everton and they quickly climbed up the league table and away from the relegation zone, setting their sights on a European finish. "Then you have the pace of Theo Walcott on the flank and the little tricks that Gylfi was pulling out - it all helped us get our rewards in the end". We never looked in any real trouble throughout.

That will be a big relief for the Blues as Coleman's recovery in just over ten months from a double leg break has seemed nothing short of miraculous at times. I would have thought Mangala will be the less serious of the two injuries.

"It was not because we were totally outplayed and not because Zaha did not play". Manga's is his knee and Seamus is a muscle as opposed to his leg.

The Toffees are now just two points off Burnley in seventh place after extending their unbeaten run against the Eagles to seven games, but Schneiderlin received a frosty reception when he was brought on with 10 minutes remaining.
