There are two more powerful options on offer, both using a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder diesel engine.

However, BMW has chose to forward the second-generation X4 quite prematurely probably due to the state of the competition.

It may be larger, but the new X4 is much lighter than the last model, as BMW has managed to trim 110 pounds of fat off the curb weight thanks to increased use of aluminium in the car's construction, resulting in a lower center of gravity that enhances the coupe SUV's cornering abilities.

The new X4 will make its public debut at the Geneva motor show in the first week of March and is scheduled for release in South Africa during the third quarter of 2018, in a shortened line-up of one diesel and three petrol variants, with two more diesels to follow - each driving via an eight-speed Steptronic transmission and all-wheel xDrive. Acceleration 0 - 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, top speed 250 km/h.

The M40d, priced from £55,315, offers 326hp, gets from 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds, has official combined fuel economy of 44.1mpg, and Carbon dioxide emissions of 170g/km.

The X4 seats three in the rear with full-size seats, with a claimed 27mm extra legroom over the previous model. Combining robust all-round qualities with the sporty elegance of a BMW coupé, the model succeeded in arousing the enthusiasm of new target groups for the unique driving pleasure offered by a BMW X model. Prices for the xDrive30i start at $50,450 plus a destination charge, while the M40i starts at $60,450. Boot space is rated at 525 litres with the rear seats up or 1430 litres with the seats down. That model can sprint to 60 miles per hour in just 4.6 seconds. CO2 figures for the xDrive30d range from 156 to 163g/km depending on spec, with the less efficient M40d pumping out 170 to 173g/km. BMW says that the 2019 X4 is the second gen Sports Activity Coupe (but we know an SUV when we see it).

Kohli-led India aim to create history in 5th ODI
Heading into the match, the Kohli-led side will look to learn from their mistake in the last tie and wrap up the six-match series. Asked to bat, openers Shikhar Dhawan (34) and Rohit got India off to a decent start before the former was removed by Rabada.

Winter Olympics 2018: American luger Emily Sweeney crashes on final run
She initially put her feet down to slow her progress but quickly began to rock back and forth at more than 60 miles per hour. Sweeney is competing in her first Olympics after missing out on the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

OLYMPIC ROUNDUP: Canada scores its first gold medal in PyeongChang
But don't worry fans, they're apparently compensating the lack of sexy lift with an edited, more dramatic ending to their routine. Nothing was quite as heartwarming as Olympic figure skater - and gold medallist - Meghan Duhamel's reaction to her team's win.

The full range is on sale now with prices starting at £42,900 for an xDrive20d.

The new X4 includes BMW's latest infotainment hardware and software, which includes a 10.25-inch touchscreen.

This is the second generation of the X4 - a rival for the Mercedes GLC Coupe and Jaguar F-Pace - and, like its predecessor, it's based on the X3, but trades some of that car's practicality for coupe-like styling and a sharper drive.

This allows you to plan your route at home before syncing it to the car's in-built system.

When sparring in the Aldi 500 gets too hot, however, the X4 has got your back with its standard Active Protection safety system that tightens the seatbelts and closes all windows in the event of an imminent collision. The X4 is closely related to the X3, which got a redesign for 2018.

It's not much of a shock in here - standard BMW fare.
