Google Found a Way to Bring Smart Replies to All Messaging Apps

Google's Area 120 testing smart reply feature has been rolling out soon, according to the latest announcement made by Google. Offering similar technology across a range of apps - and potentially only for Android users - could help push some users to adopt Android over iOS; or could prompt them to move to Gmail when they see how useful Smart Reply technology can be.

Google's Area 120, a workshop for experimental products under development at the Mountain View firm, is now testing the new system.

"You probably get a lot of chat messages", said Area 120 in an email to testers. Smart reply offers automated replies, and like any AI-powered feature, it can be correct at times, or off the mark at various instances. A few other apps have implemented it as well, like Android Messages, but usually not in notifications.

The Reply software is able to suggest Smart Replies to questions like "Are you at the restaurant" and "When can you be home". It seems as though Reply is able to do this by recognizing the user's current location. When a text comes during your trip, it would mute the notification and automatically respond with, "I am driving right now and will respond to you when I get to my destination", or something along those lines.

Google's internal incubator, Area 120, is working hard to incorporate this functionality into chat apps such as Google Hangouts, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Android Messages (for all carriers), Skype, Twitter DMs, and Slack.

In the weekend's remaining Test, Ireland host Italy in a fixture for which all the statistics point to a comfortable home win. Scotland wouldn't let the visitors pull away and Laidlaw cut the lead back to just three points.

Hoping to discern what she's thinking, analysts pored over video of her eyes, and remarked on the tilt of her chin. Before now, she had been seen mainly in photos, but often in the background, as her brother took center stage.

It should be noted that Android Messages, as mentioned, has already received Smart Reply support.

Now it appears as though Google wants to bring its Smart Reply feature to other messaging apps as well.

The other features that Reply brings include Do not disturb.

The project, like all Area 120 projects, is unrelated to any broader developments at Google - in this case, that means it's not directly tied to Google's messaging efforts.

Love it, or hate it, but the Smart Reply feature in Google's Gmail is a boon to those who are inundated with hundreds of emails on a daily basis. "Like all other projects within Area 120, it's a very early experiment so there aren't many details to share right now".
