Man dies after serious crash at Heathrow Airport

A man has died after two airport vehicles crashed at Heathrow Airport.

"Another male, aged in his 40s, was taken to a west London hospital with serious injuries".

The BBC reports passengers on one plane were forced to evacuate after the crash. Another man involved in the crash was treated on scene for non-life threatening injuries.

A Met Police spokesman said: "Police are investigating following a fatal collision at Heathrow airport".

A spokesman said: "We can confirm that following a serious accident involving two vehicles on our airfield, an airport colleague has passed away".

At least 20 British Airways flights from Terminal 5 were delayed and passengers were ordered to leave an aircraft which was unable to take off because of the incident. Officers attended with London Ambulance Service colleagues.

"The Metropolitan Police force said its officers were called just after 6 a crash on the taxiway, which Heathrow initially described as a "serious accident involving two vehicles" on the airfield".

But Scotland Yard this afternoon confirmed the man, an engineer in his 40s, later died.

"Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit have been informed and are in attendance". One other member of staff was treated at the site.

"Our deepest condolences go to the family and friends affected by this accident".

One of the men involved in the crash went into cardiac arrest and later died. We await formal identification.

One passenger who had been on a Zurich-bound flight, said: "We boarded and waited and then the captain gave a series of apologies and further delay announcements". Emergency teams rushed to the scene to treat two seriously injured workers.
