Danielle Herrington Covers Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue 2018

This month, the 23-year-old gold-medal victor appears stripped down as part of a #MeToo-inspired photo shoot for the annual Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue.

Olympic great Aly Raisman has returned to the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue, and this time, she brought along a message.

Herrington was moved to tears as Banks showed her a cardboard cut-out of the cover, which features a shot of Herrington on the beach in the Bahamas.

Herrington first appeared in the magazine's swimsuit issue past year. "I am the 2018 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover model", she told Sports Illustrated.

"A blinded and brainwashed society has tried to convince me that as a tall blonde woman with a pretty face, I'd never be taken seriously".

Herrington becomes the third black model to appear on the cover of the swimsuit issue. But she has accomplished a lot in her 10-plus years as a model. The gymnast posed alongside celebs like Sailor Brinkley Cook as part of the magazine's "In Her Own Words" project, a series of black-and-white nude portraits where each participant chose words to write in black ink on their bodies.

Banks appeared on the cover in 1997 and the singer Beyonce Knowles appeared on it in 2005, Sports Illustrated said. "Women can be intelligent, fierce, sexy, powerful, strong, advocates for change while wearing what makes them feel best", Raisman said. "You are the living embodiment to say that dreams do come true".

Luckily she did not fall directly onto the rock too hard and seemed to walk away from the incident with minimal damage. All those things separately don't guarantee a cover, though.
