'Black Panther' Breaks Weekend Box Office Records

Since its release last week, the film has instantly became the top grossing movie by a black director (Ryan Coogler) - beating out F Gary Gray's Fate of the Furious by nearly $100 million - after taking in a whopping $361m (£257m) globally on its opening weekend, $192m (£137m) of that made in America, according to Box Office Mojo. The film earned $25 million in Thursday screenings along.

In case you haven't paid attention, Black Panther, the Marvel's new film, is a Very, Very Good Movie.

The album for the Black Panther, featuring songs by Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, SZA, Khalid and more, has debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.

The $169 million the film earned at the global box office adds to $192 million domestic collection to post a worldwide box office collection of $361 million.

Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong'o, Angela Bassett, Danai Gurira and Daniel Kaluuya, round out some of this star-studded cast. But this is a four-day weekend in the United States due to President's Day that is held in honour of George Washington. Domhnall Gleeson stars as the heir to Mr. McGregor's property, with Rose Byrne as the kindly neighbor Bea. Based on the novel of the same name, "Fifty Shades Freed" is an erotic romantic film directed by James Foley and stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan as Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey respectively. Fared well in its opening weekend.

Sony's action adventure comedy film "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" landed in fourth place with an estimated USD7.95 million in its ninth weekend, taking in an impressive USD377.62 million in North America to date. The 62-day domestic total will hit nearly $380 million, just behind 2005's "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith" for 32nd spot on the all-time list.

Nick Park's "Early Man" opened softly this weekend in the U.S.in the seventh slot with $4.2 million from 2,494 North American locations.
