Kansas City to trade CB Marcus Peters to Los Angeles Rams

Peters is a top-tier corner in the prime of his career at 25 yet the Chiefs were willing to move on from him because of behavioral concerns. The team has elected to move forward with a new group at the position with Kendall Fuller, who was acquired from the Washington Redskins in the Alex Smith trade, and David Amerson, who the team signed last week.

As a result of today's trade, NFL.com's Kevin Patra says the Rams will now let cornerback Trumaine Johnson walk in free agency.

This was the second step the Chiefs had taken to rebuilding their roster in the wake of yet another embarrassing home playoff defeat in which they once led by 18 points.

Kansas City will receive a "package of draft picks" in return for Peters, NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reported.

The Kansas City Chiefs are planning to trade Marcus Peters to the Los Angeles Rams, according to multiple reports. The Chiefs have dominated the division over the past couple of seasons, and Peters was a huge part of what they liked to do on the defensive side of the ball. That followed an incident against the New York Jets when Peters picked up an official's flag and threw it in the stands before walking off the field. I find this highly unlikely.

Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters (22) acknowledges the crowd before their National Football League game against the Oakland Raiders at O.co Coliseum in Oakland, Calif, on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015.

Marcus Peters is in rarified company when it comes to his ability to generate turnovers. He drew three penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct this past season.

The Chiefs have been by far the most aggressive team in the league early this offseason, so it is obvious Brett Veach, Andy Reid and co. have a plan.

The Rams and Chiefs play next season in Mexico City.
