White House placed in lockdown after vehicle rams into barrier

A white van slammed into a security barrier around 17th and E a few blocks from the White House on Friday afternoon, prompting the Secret Service to put the grounds on lockdown.

"The female driver of the vehicle was immediately apprehended by Secret Service Uniformed Division Officers", another tweet read.

The white vehicle was jammed up tightly against the fence as officers began examining the auto.

A law enforcement said that the woman was known to the Secret Service, reports NBC. It happened as President Trump was hosting Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull inside.

Asked whether the US planned to board vessels bound for North Korea, the secretary replied, "I can not rule that out". Additionally, the department designated a Taiwanese citizen, Tsang Yung Yuan, and two companies he owns or controls.

However, U.S. and Indian officials had called the claim "premature" and said that a final decision was still to come. According to Sohail, there would be a slight impact on banking related transactions with foreign countries.

Located in the middle of the bustling metropolis, the White House grounds have been a target for intruders several times over the years.

A video of the incident showed the minivan with an American flag emblem on the back and with both its rear windows and a side window smashed.

According to reporters locked in the press room, Secret Services officers were seen running toward the residence. Mr Trump was not at home at the time.

No law enforcement personnel were injured in the incident, and no shots were fired, according to Secret Service. Her 13-month-old daughter was found uninjured strapped in the back vehicle seat.
