Manchester Piccadilly trains halted by protesters

Manchester's Piccadilly train station was forced to close in the afternoon on March 11 after protesters stormed the railway lines.

King's Cross in London has been closed today because of a pro-Kurdish demonstration at the station.

Earlier, National Rail said in a statement: "Protesters are on the tracks at the station and attempting to climb overhead line equipment".

All outbound trains have been disrupted due to track invasion and some services had to be cancelled later.

"Trains may be amended, cancelled or delayed".

"We will continue to maintain a police presence at this station and at other stations across the rail network", he added. You can also use Transport for Greater Manchester services between Manchester and Stockport.

Witnesses described "mums and kids in tears" as dozens of demonstrators jumped from the platforms onto the rails at Manchester Piccadilly, blocking trains and causing huge delays.

A spokesman said: "The station has been closed to trains while officers at the scene work to ensure their (protesters) safe removal and the reopening of the station". The station is closed.
