Though the National Football League free agency period hasn't technically begun, a big name is already off the market, as WR Allen Robinson is expected to sign with the Chicago Bears for a three-year deal worth a reported $42 million.

The fifth-year wide receiver has caught 202 passes for 2,848 yards and 22 touchdowns since being selected in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. His production dropped in 2016, with 73 receptions for 883 yards and six scores.

Chicago also agreed to a deal with Atlanta Falcons receiver Taylor Gabriel, and Miami Dolphins kicker Cody Parkey also plans to sign with the Bears, people familiar with their situations said.

Siale Angilau Shot In Courtroom After Attacking Witness

Allen Robinson received an average of $14 million dollars a year and only $25 million fully guaranteed, a number that must have been too high for the Jacksonville front office to stomach. But remember, Robinson is coming off a season-ending injury. Of the three first-round picks taken at quarterback in 2017, Trubisky-on paper-may be the least exciting destination for a free agent wide receiver looking to bolster his value and hit on one more major contract.

The Chicago Bears have landed a big-time wide receiver in free agency to pair with young franchise quarterback Mitchell Trubisky for the foreseeable future.

Robinson made just one catch in 2017 before suffering his torn ACL. Robinson is the type of player who can make sideline catches and be a weapon in the red zone. Jeffery left to become a Super Bowl champ in free agency. A speedy receiver such as Gabriel should also contrast nicely with Robinson, who isn't as much of a downfield threat. After seeing him land $32 million on day two of the legal tampering period, it's fair to say they may have been right.
