He said his party's manifesto would be based on the slogan "Respect Vote" and 'Respect Mandate'. "He confidently stated that "(Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief) Imran Khan and (former co-chairperson of Pakistan People's Party Asif Ali) Zardari combined can not defeat Nawaz under any circumstance".

His election as the PML-N President took place at the Central General Council meeting of the party at Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad on Tuesday afternoon.

The apex court ruled that a person disqualified under Article 62 and 63 can not serve as the head of a political party.
