The luxury brand cut costs by 1 billion euros previous year as part of a goal to cut spending by 10 billion euros by 2022 to free up funds for its electric-car programme. The e-tron GT, which will be shown in concept form later this year, will be the third model in Audi's range of full-electric cars.

Stadler said Audi was having its most aggressive launch of new models in its history and had changed the spread of production over its factories.

"We interpret sportiness very progressively with our fully electric e-tron GT, and this is how we will take our high-performance brand Audi Sport into the future", says Stadler.

Stadler says the new zero-emission Audi model will line-up alongside the e-tron quattro SUV unveiled in prototype form wearing light disguise at the recent Geneva motor show as well a production version of the e-tron Sportback (pictured below) first revealed in concept auto form at the 2017 Shanghai motor show. This spearhead from Audi Sport will be produced at the Böllinger Höfe plant near Neckarsulm as of 2020.

Audi has confirmed plans to develop an all-new all-electric four-door sports auto.

Audi's EV plans continue with the E-Tron Quattro SUV to be produced in Brussels, Belgium, as well as the first round of fully electric-series vehicles coming later this year. Audi decided that it needed to get back in the game after the R8 E-Tron, so it just announced that it's building the E-Tron GT and hit us with a teaser image. That price is slightly more than the recently launched Jaguar I-Pace crossover, which will start at 77,850 euros in Germany when it goes on sale in June.

By 2025, Audi will have approximately 20 electrified models in its product offering across the entire portfolio.
