Star Wars Battlefront 2 March Progression Update Set To Release March 21st

When Battlefront II launched to the public, it featured a loot box/microtransaction system that heavily encouraged players to spend quite a bit of money on the game in order to unlock perks and certain legendary Star Wars characters.

If you have purchased crates or earned upgrades through them, you get to keep everything you already have.

But gamers rebelled, Battlefront II wasn't almost as big a hit as EA hoped (although it was still pretty big - it is Star Wars after all) and now they've changed how everything works.

All of these changes, besides the new cosmetic items, will go into effect in just a couple of days, on March 21, 2018. But "Star Cards", which are class- and character-specific buffs, drive a lot of a player's performance in the game. Anything that impacts gameplay, such as Star Cards, will only be earned through gameplay and will no longer be purchaseable. The contents of these crates is limited to cosmetic items, such as emotes or poses, and credits. Instead, you'll get crates when you complete milestones, log in, and complete timed challenges.

You will be able to keep everything you've already unlocked though, so this isn't resetting anything. Nothing will be replaced that players already have.

My strongest criticism of Star Wars Battlefront 2 was that I simply didn't know what its priority was. If you've ever dreamed of being a part of the Resistance as a Rodian, your chance is right around the corner. Some of the latter will be "radically different", according to DICE. Starting in April, these new skins will allow players to finally customize their favorite troopers and heroes. More game modes are set to come in the next few months. Which means Battlefront II will likely end up working very similarly to Overwatch et al. Criterion, with a deep history of creating some of gaming's fastest and intuitive vehicles, has built space combat from the ground up with refined handling, weapons, and customization options. It's a root and branch overhaul, that both greatly simplifies the player upgrade system, but also preserves all the progress you might have made up until now.

There will apparently also be further updates to the game over the weeks following this update landing.

EA revealed on its January earnings call that "Star Wars Battlefront II" sold roughly 7 million units during the December quarter, tracking below its guidance in July for 14 million lifetime unit sales for the title.
