Police say 2 shot at Alabama hospital; gunman dead

Police confirm two people were shot Wednesday evening on the second floor of UAB Highlands Hospital in Birmingham before the shooter turned the gun on himself.

Police didn't immediately respond to messages seeking comment.

Officials said the suspect and Swift were both employed by UAB, and the wounded victim worked for Steris, a medical consulting business based in Birmingham.

Peter Williston said police were called at 6:55 p.m. Police found two victims along with the gunman who died of a self-inflicted gunshot, Williston said.

The incident comes just one week after a 17-year-old high school senior in Birmingham was killed in a shooting at Huffman High School.

The shooting took place on the second floor of UAB Highlands, police said. He said the other victim is in "stable" condition.

Our son, Timothy Noah Isley was injured in a shooting that occurred last night at his place of employment. The order was lifted around 7:45 p.m.

We do not know the identity of the shooter at this time.

All surgeries scheduled for UAB Highlands on Thursday have been canceled.
