United Airlines had an in-flight incident involving a dog.

The plane diverted to Akron so that the dog could be delivered to its owner.

On Thursday, a United flight from Newark, N.J., to St. Louis was diverted after the airline learned it had a dog bound for Akron, Ohio, on board, the Washington Post reports.

United was also under fire previous year for the treatment of a passenger who was physically dragged off a plane the airline had overbooked, when videos posted online by other passengers showed a man screaming as officers yanked him from his seat. This was a four-hour journey, with roughly an hour and a half spent on the ground in Akron after diverting near Columbus, he said.

When the plane landed in New York City, the dog's owners found the puppy dead in his carrier after apparently suffocating in the locker.
