Two IndiGo Aircraft Grounded after Engine Problems During Take-off

President Robert F. Leduc has said that the grounded aircraft belonging to IndiGo and GoAir over engine related safety concerns will be back in operation by April-end.

In what was the third incident with its Airbus A320neo aircraft equipped with Pratt & Whitney's PW1100G engines in two days, low-priced carrier IndiGo witnessed fuel leak on one of the power plants on a plane.

However, a source at the Srinagar airport told The Kashmir Monitor that IndiGo continues to run other A320neo aircrafts with PW 1100 engines, risking the lives of travellers.

Another IndiGo Airbus 320 Neo plane was temporarily grounded at the Jammu airport due to fuel leakage from engine 1.

On Sunday, Mumbai-Srinagar IndiGo flight 6E 559, which used an A320 Neo jet fitted with a P&W engine, was grounded for a day after a leak from one engine, which was detected during maintenance checks, was repaired.

The IndiGo flight (6E-711) was withdrawn after high vibration in the engine. On the whole, 138 flights stand cancelled.

On the Srinagar flight, which had hydraulic leakage, IndiGo's official spokesperson told The Kashmir Monitor that the "issue has been rectified and the aircraft is now fit to fly". The setback also comes at a time when IndiGo plans to seek permission from the government to fly long-haul worldwide flights.

The grounding of the above two flights came after, when on Sunday, Indigo revealed that A320 Neo aircraft which operated on the Bengaluru-Delhi route was withdrawn in Delhi for maintenance check, as detect was reported in it.

Yesterday, less than a week after the aviation regulator grounded eleven A320neos aircraft of IndiGo and GoAir over safety concerns, IndiGo on Sunday withdrew another A320neo due to an engine problem. Both aircraft were immediately withdrawn for rectification.

In a major embarrassment for IndiGo, a new ATR aircraft powered by a brand new Pratt & Whitney engine had to abort its flight from Toulouse to New Delhi and return to the French aircraft manufacturing facility due to a technical snag The IndiGo ATR 72-600 aircraft which was on its maiden flight from its Toulouse headquarters to join the IndiGo hub in New Delhi had no passengers on board.

Aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had on Monday ordered the grounding of 11 A320Neo planes fitted with P&W1100 engines beyond ESN 450 series due to recurring problems, including mid-air shutdowns.
