The Urbana lawyer in November will face the victor of the eight-candidate Democratic field. He promised to find common ground on many issues, including pension reform and term-limits, and to approach these issues with a "bipartisan" approach.

One-party rule is another change he wants to see in Springfield, beginning with Madigan moving on.

Considered by many to be the Bernie Sanders of Chicago following his unexpected run-off against Rahm Emanuel for Mayor a couple years ago, Chuy proved that spotlight was no fluke, following in the footsteps of Luis Gutierrez by convincingly winning the 4th Congressional Seat left open by Gutierrez's stepping down earlier this year. The heavily Hispanic and Democratic district covers Mexican, Puerto Rican and Central American swaths of Chicago and several suburbs.

Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner narrowly defeated state Rep. Jeanne Ives on Tuesday night, escaping a primary challenge from a conservative lawmaker he'd once dismissed as a "fringe" candidate. His ad quotes Biss and Kennedy's warnings that Pritzker was Madigan's candidate, would serve as the poster child for pay-to-play politics, and protect the status quo. "I will fight today, and tomorrow, and every day of this election and every day after to get our state back on track". Democrats, he said, should be united in fighting President Donald Trump, not going after each other.

Pritzker, 53, poured almost $70 million into capturing a Democratic nomination that proved tougher than initially expected.

State Board of Elections spokesman Matt Dietrich says state officials have been working with the Department of Homeland Security to test Illinois' voting registration systems weekly for vulnerabilities.

No incumbent Democrat in Congress has lost a primary since 2014, when Massachusetts's scandal-plagued Rep. John F. Tierney was defeated by Seth Moulton. He's seeking his eighth term.

Marie Newman, who was little-known when she made a decision to challenge Lipinski for the seat he inherited from his father, had backing from progressive groups as well as Sen.

Jim Rietgraf of Peru said he voted for Pritzker and was unsurprised at how many voters opted for a fresh face after four years of fiscal gridlock and finger-pointing.

After Rauner took office in 2015, IL entered a budget impasse, in which the state operated without a budget for more than two years.

For instance, if Facebook sells an ad created to reach users in Milan, the company would pay tax on that ad revenue in Italy. USA objections alone won't scuttle the EC proposals. "Our proposal doesn't target any company or any country", he said.

"We deserve a representative who will represent us", said candidate Kelly Mazeski. He says Pritzker "has been knocking on doors his whole life". The encounter buoyed her candidacy, driving attention and money to her upstart campaign.

Lance Yednock is among the down-ticket candidates who may have benefited from Pritzker's odometer.

"We have moved him on immigration, we have moved him on health care".

Art Havenhill, a member of the TEA Party, said he was "not surprised at all" that Ives gave Rauner a scare.

Polls are opening across IL in a primary that is being widely watched because of the money being spent in the governor's race.

Pritzker took the stage Tuesday night in a Chicago hotel ballroom to the song "Go Big or Go Home" by the group American Authors - telling the crowd "I'm J.B. Pritzker, and I'm going to beat Bruce Rauner" and saying he wouldn't let U.S. President Donald Trump "have an inch of IL". Biss tried to campaign against Pritzker's enormous wealth, estimated at $3.5 billion, often referring to the primary in his speeches as "an auction, not a race". He face off with incumbent Gov. Bruce Rauner (R) in the general election. "Those two actually have a lot more in common than Jeanne Ives".

IL primary voters have spoken.

IL voters are choosing nominees in what's shaping up to be the most expensive election for governor in USA history. There also are hotly contested primaries for governor and attorney general as well as legislative races, among others.

Rauner had put $50 million of his own money into his campaign, much of it on ads that blamed Illinois House Speaker Michael J. Madigan (D) for the state's problems. The field also included developer Chris Kennedy, the 54-year-old son of the late Sen.

Pritzker has endorsed legalizing marijuana, which could bring in an estimated $500 million in new revenue and said his policies would be aimed at increasing jobs - a similar theme long struck by Rauner although the two diverge own how to accomplish it.
