IPL 2018: Bad luck continue for Daredevils

With hopes of changing the fortunes in the home game at Feroz Shah Kotla ground, Delhi Daredevils (DD) will collide with the most monstrous batting side Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2018) here on Monday.

Iyer raised his half-century with a straight six off Mujeeb in the last over, and his valiant 57 went in vain on the last ball of the match.

Chasing a low total of just 143, Delhi got off to a bad start losing three wickets in the Powerplay overs. Delhi started their proceedings on a shaky note as pacer Ankit Rajpoot came with the first breakthrough for Punjab in the third over, dismissing opener Prithvi Shaw for 22 runs.

After the initial hick ups Shreyas Iyer and Rahul Tewatia (24 runs) did well to keep Delhi in the hunt and reached near the target.

Kings XI Punjab is no doubt the top team of this IPL season 11 and their performance since the opening match is showing why they are capable of winning the title. Daredevils needed 17 off the last over, and five off the last ball, but Iyer could only find Aaron Finch at long-off.

Kings XI bowling: Rajpoot 4-0-23-2, Sran 4-0-45-1, Tye 4-0-25-2, Ashwin 4-0-19-0, Mujeeb 4-0-25-2. The ball skidded on, more trying to get their wickets. Our bowlers did really well to restrict them but we lost too many wickets in the first six and it's always hard when that happens. Some are saying that Delhi shouldn't have taken the match till the last over which led to the loss while others have, practically, written off the team.

Earlier, Liam Plunkett starred with the ball on his IPL debut as he picked 3/15 to restrict Kings XI Punjab to a small total. While he took the important wickets of KL Rahul (23), Mayank Agarwal (21) and Karun Nair (34), his colleagues Trent Boult (2/21) and Avesh Khan (2/36) also backed skipper Gambhir's decision to bowl first with some tidy bowling. But once Rahul fell to Plunkett, the innings went into a steep decline and the subsequent batsmen just could not force the pace. While the communication with Kings XI skipper Ravichandran Ashwin and Rajpoot was flawless on the field, the pair did face some trouble during the post-match presentation.
