Amazon Echo Dot Kids Edition: Everything You Need to Know

When a child questions a new "Kids Edition" of the Echo speaker and says "please", it will respond: "Thanks for asking so nicely".

FreeTime on Alexa works on Echo, Echo Dot and Echo Plus. Amazon also announced on Wednesday that it's made a child-focused version of its $80 Echo Dot speaker, which have durable, candy-colored cases and that its adding parental controls to the Echo, Echo Dot and Echo Plus to help limit when a child can interact with their technology. Not exactly ideal if you have kids in the house, which is why Amazon's developed a child-friendly Echo Dot Kids Edition. Making the Echo and Alexa more useful as a family tool is also a smart move as Amazon continues to compete for dominance of the home against Apple and Google, the latter of which also announced some new kid-friendly content for its own Home speaker a year ago.

In the USA, the Echo Dot Kids Edition costs $79.99, around $30 more than the normal Echo Dot.

The newest Amazon Alexa speaker that was added to the family of devices today could be accurately characterized as the child of the group.
