Critics said at the time that Apple had obfuscated the fact that a worn-out battery not only fails to hold a charge, it also degrades the phone's performance.

Apple is offering free replacement battery for certain non-touch MacBook Pros affected by a battery problem.

So far, Apple hasn't released an exact figure on the number of devices affected but users do not have to worry about it being a safety hazard. If you already paid to have the battery replaced and have a MacBook Pro that would have been eligible for this, then you can get a refund on the fix cost.

The new issue however is down to a component failure that can result in the battery in some non-touch MacBook Pros expanding.

In order to check if you're MacBook Pro qualifies for the replacement program, Apple has set up a specific page to look up the laptop's serial number. Any of these three options will allow owners to easily replace their battery.

Indeed, fix advocates have long criticised Apple and other technology companies for making batteries hard for users to access and replace. In 2017, it was revealed that Apple was throttling the performance of old-model iPhones.

"The battery wears out", said Kyle Wiens, chief executive of iFixit, which publishes fix guides for iPhones and sells replacement parts.

Originally launched January 2006, the MacBook Pro is Apple's line of high-end macOS-powered laptops.

Furthermore, Apple says that if your laptop has suffered any damage which impairs the replacement of the battery, that issue will need to be resolved prior to the battery replacement.

You can check to see if your MacBook Pro is eligible for the free battery upgrade by visiting Apple's support page and entering its serial number.
