According to the New York Times, US forces are helping to destroy Houthi training camps and missiles to avert the risk of attack within Saudi Arabia.

The newspaper said there was no indication the commandos had crossed into Yemen.

They were deployed shortly after the Houthis fired a Burkan H-2 short-range ballistic missile at Riyadh in November 2017, which the Saudis claimed to have shot down, possibly with a US-made Patriot missile defense system.

Yemen has been in political disarray since 2015, when the Houthis overthrew the president and took control of most of the western part of the country, including the capital, Sana'a.

In a tweet on Thursday, Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) wrote "our troops continue to see their involvement increase in the Saudi-led war against the Houthis" and denounced the covert operation as "an unconstitutional and unauthorized use of military force". In fact, new evidence suggests the Pentagon lied to Congress during the March debate about United States involvement, presenting the USA role at present being limited to targeting and mid-air refueling of Saudi warplanes.

They repeated their previous statement, saying the troops that are in Saudi Arabia are there mostly to advise and help with border defense.

"We are authorized to help the Saudis defend their border", Gen. Joseph L. Votel, the head of United States Central Command, told the Senate Armed Services Committee on March 13.

The Pentagon's "limited non-combat support, such as intelligence sharing, focuses on assisting our partners in securing their borders from cross-border attacks from the Houthis", military spokesman Major Adrian Rankine-Galloway said.

In the eastern front of al-Baidah governorate, Yemeni army forces managed to defeat the Houthi militias in several positions.

This comes after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo last Sunday reiterated the threat from Iran, and accused the country of supporting the Houthi rebels in Yemen.
