According to a Google blog post, Smart Compose is an upcoming function that will be able to write entire emails for you.

Smart Compose will suggest complete sentences once a user starts an email-everything from the greeting to the closing, and common phrases in between.

If you see a suggestion you like, hit tab and it will be filled in. It also reduces the chance of spelling and grammatical errors, while also suggesting relevant contextual phrases.

Gmail is getting a major overhaul, with the email client gaining a suite of new features that promise better security, easier use, and less information overload. Google then says to find "Experimental Access" in the "General" settings tab and enable it. It's reversible by just unchecking that box.
