Among the potentially faulty models - BMW series 1 and 3, as well as petrol and diesel models of the Z4 and X1 taken in the period from March 2007 to August 2011.

It follows an initial recall of 36,410 petrol cars during 2017.

Which? managing director of home products and services, Alex Neill, said: 'This recall from BMW raises serious questions about the adequacy of the auto recall system in this country. The initial recall followed a 2016 fatal accident in Guildford when a man in a Ford Fiesta died after the vehicle left the road and hit a tree after trying to avoid a stalled BMW.

BBC News reports that Watchdog has found that the fault could affect a wider number of cars.

BMW sold 182,000 cars in 2016, so this recall represents a significant amount of BMW vehicles on the UK's roads.

"I just thought to myself if I was driving on the motorway with my family in the auto, that could have been very unsafe", he said.

When Kambafwile took the auto to get inspected, he told the BBC that BMW employees told him a cable had burnt out and no current was passing through the car's fusebox.

'I took it to BMW.

MORE than 300,000 BMWs have been recalled following the discovery of an electrical fault which could see them stall while being driven.

BMW also failed to let the UK's Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) know about the electrical problem affecting their cars and how it was involved in Mr Gurung's death.

"It then provided us with incorrect information about the faults, so we were not able to make an informed decision", the DVSA said.

The inquest at Woking Coroner's Court was told BMW had received complaints of an electrical issue that caused a total power failure as early as 2011.

It wasn't until three months after Gurung died, in February 2017, that BMW recalled 36,000 affected vehicles in the United Kingdom, having previously recalled vehicles with the fault in the US, Canada, Australia and South Africa.

BMW told the broadcaster: "We now recognise that there may have been some cases of similar power supply issues in vehicles not covered by the original recall".

BMW faced backlash after an inquest last week heard that the company failed to recall thousands of potentially unsafe vehicles despite customers complaining power issues from as early as 2011.
