Hollywood star Salma Hayek, one of the innumerable women who came forward a year ago to accuse Harvey Weinstein of sexual harassment, believes disgraced producer only responded to her and Lupita Nyongo's claims because women of colour are the easiest to get discredited. I had a good run but now it's also time to be generous with the actresses in the films'. "I hope that adding my voice to the chorus of those who are finally speaking out will shed light on why it is so hard, and why so many of us have waited so long", she wrote.

Speaking at Cannes, Hayek said Weinstein specifically contested her claim and that of Lupita Nyong'o because they are women of colour.

The initiative has been taken up by French gender equality movement 5050x2020 that aims to highlight the hurdles that women have to cross to be able to climb up the professional and social ladder in the film industry. "If it's centered around my name, to get investors, then we can use that attention for a raft of female projects".

"On these steps today stand 82 women representing the number of female directors who have climbed these stairs since the first edition of the Cannes Film Festival in 1946. Because if there hadn't been so many, probably people would have thought that we made that up". It is a well-known fact that if you are a woman of colour, people believe you less.

The change, Hayek said, "already happened".

Other women taking part included Kristen Stewart, Ava DuVernay, Marion Cotillard, Salma Hayek, and Patty Jenkins.

Actress Salma Hayek said that male actors should be open to voluntarily accepting a pay cut if they're serious about evening the playing field in Hollywood's gender wage disparity.

"The men are terrified", she said.

Weinstein denied Hayek's accusations soon after they were published.

The 51-year-old actress came forward last year as one of over 50 women to place misconduct allegations against the disgraced producer.

"A lot of attractive, peaceful men have been the victims of the bullying of men", she declared, saying it was "an exciting time" for men in Hollywood.

"I think it's an invitation for us to think differently and to act differently", she said.

"We should have come together sooner, because that's what's made the difference".
