Mahathir 'Prevented' Najib From Leaving Malaysia

Najib had said he was planning a "short break" overseas but angry Malaysians descended on an airport from where he was expected to depart in a bid to stop the couple leaving.

The reports filed before the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), accuse Najib of using his position as prime minister for "gratification", and for allegedly owning unexplained properties, according to Malaysia's The Star news website.

Abdul Razak said a "former boss" had urged him to file the report, but he declined to identify the person by name.

Najib's ruling Barisan Nasional coalition, which ruled Malaysia uninterrupted for 61 years since independence, was routed at the polls by a Mahathir-led opposition alliance.

Mahathir, who has returned as prime minister after his retirement in 2003 following a 22-year rule, has promised to reopen investigations into the 1MDB fiasco, described by U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions as "kleptocracy at its worst". Anwar's daughter Nurul Izzah said her father, whose sentence ends June 8, would be released Tuesday.

The three new ministers, all leaders of the component parties of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition, are finance minister Lim Guan Eng, defense minister Mohamad Sabu and minister of home affairs Muhyiddin Yassin.

The government also announced that the head of the country's treasury has been relieved of his duties.
