Jack Wilshere's hope of representing England in the World Cup has hit the rock as England manager, Gareth Southgate hinted that the Arsenal midfielder will not be included in England's World Cup squad.

Despite spending all season at left-back for Manchester City, Fabian Delph has reportedly been selected for the final 23-man squad.

The 31-year-old made 14 league appearances for the Hammers before his lack of form saw him only start a further five games from December until the end of the campaign.

Burnley's Nick Pope, who was called up for the games against the Netherlands and Italy but remains uncapped, is the likeliest to replace Hart in the 23-man squad, which Southgate will reveal on Wednesday.

It is understood he will not be on the stand-by list either.

Southgate had planned to take Hart as his third-choice keeper behind Jordan Pickford and Jack Butland.

"I could sit here and say this round or that round - but it doesn't mean anything, really, because we have to keep improving as a team", Southgate said when asked what he would see as a successful World Cup.

England last year won both the under-20 and under-17 versions of the World Cup, and Lineker said there is "no question" that the national team will be challenging for senior titles in the coming years.

Hart has played sporadically at West Ham this season.

But Burnley's Nick Pope has reportedly usurped him in pecking order after Southgate called Hart on Monday to tell him he would not be in the squad heading to Russian Federation.
