Johnson also called on Washington "to avoid any actions that could prevent the remaining parties to the agreement from meeting their commitments under the deal - including delivering sanctions relief through legitimate trade". Israel is already on alert for a possible conflict with Iranian interests in the region.

He will also have similar discussions with France, Germany and Britain on Tuesday.

Mogherini said "expert talks" on relevant financial and economic issues such as banking transactions and oil would begin soon and the deputy foreign ministers from the three European nations and Iran would meet in Vienna next week. He said that he would work to protect European businesses from being hit by US measures if they continue to trade with Iran.

A similar pattern may now play out again following Trump's decision.

Johnson made the comments in parliament on Tuesday in response to a question about whether he thought John Bolton, the U.S. National Security Advisor, was seeking regime change in Tehran. Europeans, Russia and China consider Trump's decision to withdraw from the agreement as rash and ill-advised, something they will not go for.

"That's why even after the USA withdrawal from JCPOA, our cooperation with Russian Federation will not be halted and the construction of the new reactors for the Bushehr nuclear station will continue", he emphasized. This was besides the condition that Iran would abide by the demands of International Atomic Energy Agency to inspect the nuclear establishments as and when they desire.

President Hassan Rouhani said Sunday the country would remain in the deal if the other signatories continue to follow the agreement.

"However, because Russia and the United States have signed an agreement on cooperation in nuclear energy, Moscow could respond in kind, that's why I think that Iran's nuclear program remains under Russian protection", he added. "But as it is now, at least for the time being, we're the country that's isolated".

This US-French dialogue came to nothing.

Trump shot back, claiming in a tweet on Saturday that Tehran had exploited the lifting of sanctions to bolster its military and increased its defence spending by 40 percent since 2015, when the pact was agreed.

Europe took a similar path after Washington passed the ILSA legislation in 1996.

After the U.S. departure from the nuclear deal, Iran is making sure that the deal survives under all circumstances.
