After strutting down the red carpet in a lovely silver dress, she stopped midway and removed her heels and chose to walk up the stairs barefoot. She lifted a banner reading "Stop the attack on Gaza". In fact, the internet reacted to a photo of her staring longingly at Blanchett.

The actress has been a regular on the famous red carpet for years now and is well aware of the long-running (if not ridiculous) rule about wearing heels for the event.

While she was climbing the stairs the photographers kept taking pictures.

While talking to BBC Newsbeat about shoegate, Cannes Film Festival spokeswoman Christine Aimé seemingly blamed the event's hosts and hostesses for misinterpreting the vague dress code, which only says that women are required to wear formal clothing for movie screenings. Past year the actress made a statement about how she felt the dress code of women needing to wear heels was actually sexist. People get very upset at you if you, like, don't wear heels or something-whatever.

Stewart doubled down on her previous comments during a roundtable discussion a year ago. "Things have to change immediately", she said as quoted by Vanity Fair in 2016. It's just like you simply can not ask me to do something that you are not asking him.

She added, " I get the black-tie thing but you should be able to do either version - flats or heels". Whether it was her publicised relationship with Robert Pattison or her role in Certain Women, Kristen has successfully shed her girl next door image and established herself as a phenomenal actor. Either way, she certainly caused a stir.

She utilized the platform of Cannes Red Carpet to draw the world's attention towards Killing of Palestinians.
