FOX Still Reportedly Interested In Acquiring Raw, Other Outlets Aiming For Smackdown

SmackDown Live has been airing on USA Network since July 2016, but it has been under the NBCU umbrella dating back to its Syfy days in 2010.

WWE's contract with NBCU is set to expire in September 2019.

WWE's Smackdown Live, the House that A.J. Styles (above) Built, may not have a home on USA Network if reports of NBCU's new deal with WWE come to pass.

This is according to a new write-up from The Hollywood Reporter, who state that NBCUniversal are keen to retain Raw in a deal that could close at up to three times the now contract's value, but will let SmackDown go to open bidding.

WWE spokeswoman Annie Kruger told Sporting News in March that the company intended on unveiling their new TV partners sometime between May and September. The show now garners the sixth-biggest audience among cable originals.

Fox this year inked a massive five-year, $550 million annual deal for rights to the NFL's Thursday Night Football as the broadcast network begins to focus on sports and news.

Still, broadcasters have questioned whether there is a ceiling for sports rights.
