Pep Guardiola will have the chance to add to his packed trophy cabinet after signing a new contract to keep him at Manchester City until 2021.

"I enjoy working with our players every day and we will try to do our best together in the coming years".

"Sometimes you discover things you previously didn't know, maybe pairing these two players will give you a good midfield movement, something like that".

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss moved to the Etihad Stadium in the summer of 2016 and endured an inconsistent first season as he sought to stamp his authority on the side.

Guardiola's Blues have just won the Premier League with a record 100 point total, as well as securing the title by a record-breaking margin of 19 points and achieving a string of other milestones.

"I am trying, with all my efforts and desire to avoid that, and instead of making a step back we are going to make a step forward to maintain the level of this club".

Pep Guardiola insists he must continue to make progress with his players in order to see out the remaining three years of his renewed Manchester City contract.

"In doing so he has embodied the passion and commitment we all have for the club".

However, finishing second in the Premier League is enough to guarantee a place in next season's Champions League.

But by throwing down the gauntlet to well-equipped and hungry heavyweight rivals, Guardiola's attempt to write the most glorious chapter in City's history could yet propel the Premier League into its third golden era.

Gareth Southgate, the England manager, also paid tribute to Guardiola's work, describing the 47-year-old Catalan as an inspiration for the whole of English football.
