The result: Mumbai Indians 8-168 (Pollard 50, Tye 4-16) defeated Kings XI Punjab 5-183 (Rahul 94, Bumrah 3-15) by three runs. This edition has seen five four-wicket hauls taken, Tye has three of them - making it even more remarkable that the paceman rode the bench for 34 straight matches before getting an IPL debut.

Back on the fourth position in the points table with 12 points, Mumbai's target is clear just like Bumrah's plan was when he bowled: win the last match against Delhi Daredevils and the positive net run-rate will do the rest.

Aaron Finch provided fine support for Rahul, contributing 46 (off 35 balls) to a 111-run stand for the second wicket as the Kings XI opener cruised through to another half century.

Jasprit Bumrah was chosen as the 'Player of the Match'.

Against Chennai, he failed to execute his yorkers as Dwayne Bravo took him to the cleaners in the penultimate over, while against Rajasthan, his inconsistency saw him concede 18 runs off the penultimate over after bowling a brilliant 17th over where he gave away just one run and claimed two wickets. His spell of 3/15 against Kings XI Punjab on Wednesday tilted the balance of the match in Mumbai's favour allowing the blue brigade to eventually win the do-or-die match.

He dismissed Ishan Kishan with another knuckle-ball before having Suryakumar Yadav caught behind with his very next delivery.

Kings XI Punjab and Mumbai Indians will present a face-to-face challenge in an important knockout match at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Bumrah held his nerves well for the remainder of the over, as did Mitchell McClenaghan while defending 17 off the final one to push KXIP to the wall by adding another chapter in what could well turn out to be Mumbai Indians' 2018 fairytale.

What they saidRohit Sharma: We were looking to bowl first as well.

Pollard, however, struck two boundaries and six off Marcus Stoinis in the 14th over. The match turned out a nail-biter as every team had their share of opportunities to overpower each other.

Rahul tried his best to wrestle back the momentum, taking three fours in as many balls off Ben Cutting's following over, but the re-introduction of Bumrah in the 19th - and a beautifully disguised slower ball - did for Rahul, as he holed out at long-off. Pollard was removed by KXIP skipper R Ashwin in the 16th over bringing back Punjab in the came. After a great start, with 5 wins from their first 6 games, they are now sixth in the table with a poor net run rate of -0.490.
