Arsenal confirmed the arrival of Emery, who previously worked at Sevilla and Valencia in LaLiga before a spell at Paris Saint-Germain, after the Spaniard leaked the news on his official website late on Tuesday.

Unai Emery of Spain has been named as the new manager of English Premier League side Arsenal, replacing Frenchman Arsene Wenger who parted company with the north London club two weeks ago.

"Our objective is to be among the best teams in Europe, to win titles and to be in the elite of European teams", he said.

The 46-year-old has plenty of work to do at the Emirates as the boss of the Gunners, and we'll have to see if he is given enough time to potentially reach those goals.

"I believe in the players who are here", he added.

Arsenal will be wary of the turmoil at Manchester United after the departure of long-serving manager Alex Ferguson in 2013 but said the choice of Emery was unanimous.

He will have an immediate chance to impress again in the Europa League next season, although his priority will be to restore Arsenal's place in the Premier League's top four, after they finished fifth and sixth in Wenger's last two seasons.

According to the Times, the Spaniard was stunned to learn of Arsenal's decision to hire Emery, having even discussed transfer targets with the club.

Arsenal have won three FA Cups in the past five seasons but have consistently failed to mount a credible title challenge since they were last crowned Premier League winners in 2004. I think that's about battling for every title.

"I'm very excited to be given the responsibility to start this important new chapter in Arsenal's history". If they embrace these challenges the players we have today can be more successful.

Emery, decked out in a club suit, said he felt equally enthused following his meetings with the recruitment panel. "I know they already are, but I want them to continue to be".

Majority owner Stan Kroenke, who holds the purse strings at the Emirates Stadium, said he was confident Emery had the skills to revive Arsenal's fortunes.

"We have to work hard, we have to work well together". I think all the players will be very important.

Emery was also asked about the future of Jack Wilshere, whose Arsenal contract expires at the end of next month. I don't want to speak individually.

Furthermore, he explained in great detail exactly how he would improve each player and identified the tow players he would build his squad around, those being Aaron Ramsey and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
