2 injured in shooting at Indiana middle school; gunman arrested

Two people were shot, a 13-year-old girl and a teacher.

Multiple parents interviewed by IndyStar identified Seaman as the teacher. The student has not yet been identified.

Hospital officials said that another student was being treated for an ankle fracture.

As of 11 a.m., police said the suspected shooter, a male student, had been taken into custody.

Jowitt said the student believed to be involved asked to be excused from class and then returned with two handguns and opened fire.

An eighth-grader said he counted 16 gunshots inside the middle school during the shooting.

Police did not provide details of the incident.

Police confirmed that threats were also made to surrounding middle schools.

Noblesville West does not have metal detectors, but does have an armed school resource officer who responded to the shooting. Both were taken to Indianapolis hospitals in critical condition.
