Trump heralds US military in Naval Academy commencement address

President Donald Trump on Friday told the graduating class of Naval Academy students that the US military is "respected again" under his leadership.

The President was warmly received at the Academy, where graduates and their families gathered at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Trump repeatedly warned Thursday the USA military would be ready if Kim reacted "foolishly" and the region returned to heightened tensions.

"You are now leaders in the most powerful and righteous force on the face of the planet", Trump said. "We're going to see what happens". "We're respected again", the commander-in-chief said.

His remarks come a day after he cancelled a planned summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un amid aggressive language from that country.

In his speech Friday, Trump also targeted "critics and cynics" within America who he said have sought to downplay the U.S.

"Our economy is the strongest it's ever been and our country has regained the respect that we used to have long ago overseas", stated President Trump.
