It is believed the animals escaped for their cages after flooding from a storm overnight.

Two tigers, two lions, a jaguar and a bear escaped their enclosures at a German zoo Friday morning, leading authorities there to put residents of the city on alert in case any of the animals left the park.

Numerous police, zookeepers, and firefighters are combing the zoo looking for the animals before they wandered into the town.

Residents in the nearby are are being warned to stay indoors.

A bear which had broken free from its enclosure was however shot dead, a spokesman for local authorities said.
